Konstantin Grcic is one of the leading designers of our time. Many of his creations, such as "Chair-One" (2004) or the "Mayday lamp" (1999), are already recognized as design classics. The book "Konstantin Grcic - Panorama" is being published in conjunction with the largest solo exhibition on Grcic to date. It contains the first catalogue raisonné of the designer's work and documents over 400 pieces of furniture, products and exhibitions with informative details, images and comprehensive descriptions. This overview is accompanied by numerous illustrated essays from renowned authors, including Peter Sloterdijk, Richard Sennett, Paola Antonelli, Jonathan Olivares, Mario Carpo, Louise Schouwenberg, Jan Boelen, Janna Lipsky and Mateo Kries. While some essays investigate Grcics oeuvre and its context, others address overarching issues that shape Grcics work, such as new production technologies, evolution of the home environment or the development of public spaces. The book is further augmented by a series of images depicting visionary spatial designs by Grcic produced especially for the exhibition, demonstrating his conceptions of life in the future. All these facets combine to make the book a unique panorama of a designer whose contemporary influence is widely felt - as well as a fascinating read for all those with an interest in the future of design.

Established by Wieki Somers and Dylan van den Berg, Studio Wieki Somers sees extraordinary qualities in our everyday surroundings. Working for a great variety of international manufacturers, museums, and galleries including Galerie Kreo Paris/London they ask themselves how the ordinary things around us come into being. Their products are remarkable not only for the narratives they contain, but also for their experimental use of materials and technical ingenuity. The studio's 10th anniversary publication "Out of the Ordinary" is lavishly illustrated, and elucidates the design philosophy of Studio Wieki Somers.

De ultieme biografie van de toonaangevende ontwerper Ettore Sottsass, Design museum Gent beschikt over een grote collectie meubilair, glas, keramiek en andere objecten van Sottsass; het boek is zeer mooi uitgegeven met speciale kaft en reproductie van vele tekeningen in verschillende formaten; citaat website uitgever: Perhaps best known as the founder of the Memphis Group in the 1980s – famous for its colourful and flamboyant furniture, ceramics and lighting pieces – Sottsass started his career working as a design consultant for Olivetti. He traveled extensively, particularly in the United States where he found a lot of inspiration. He is quoted as once having said: "When I was young, all we ever heard about was functionalism, functionalism, functionalism. It’s not enough. Design should also be sensual and exciting." This playfulness certainly comes across in his work. Packed with beautiful images taken from the Sottsass archives, many of which have never been published before and including drawings and sketches from the designer’s countless sketchbooks, this book looks at his entire career. Text by Philippe Thome – an expert on Sottsass’ work – is ordered chronologically and split into periods, each containing sections on the main disciplines that Sottsass pursued in that period along with biographical material. For example, the 1945 -1949 chapter opens with a biography section followed by texts on sculpture/painting, architecture, interior/furniture, installations and graphic design. The book also includes five short essays, each written by an expert in their field and exploring Sottsass’ work in the following disciplines, placing it in a wider context: - architecture- graphic design- photography- industrial design- collector’s editions. The book is structured according to the narrative text which takes a chronological route through Sottsass’ career, and is broken down into periods, opening with a biographical section and then exploring the disciplines that were most relevant in that period. The book can either be read cover-to-cover as a narrative history, or by discipline, picking up the relative thread under each period.

The concluding fourth volume of this definitive monograph on Charlotte Perriand (1903?1999) covers the last three decades of her long career. At the core is the Les Arcs skiing resort in the French Alps, where Perriand played a key role in the project development. A pioneer of bioclimatic architecture, she oversaw the architectural and urban design of Arc 1600 and Arc 1800 and created the interiors and entire outfitting down to cutlery and china for the more than 4,500 apartments. Les Arcs, an extraordinary undertaking both in sheer size and the extent of Perriand's contribution, marks the culmination of her research on alpine housing in unison with nature. The book also features a number of projects' housing and art spaces between Paris and Tokyo, in which she aimed once more to push the borders of a specific modern, cultivated way of living. It also offers a comprehensive appraisal of seven decades' work that manifests the creative force and vision of this extraordinary woman, one of the most eminent protagonists of modern architecture and design. Translated from French.
